1.1 Poverty Map of Indonesia

  1. Insert the CD; 

  2. Wait until the internet browser automatically opens the index.htm file. If this fails, open the index.htm file manually from the CD using the internet browser; 

  3. Click on the "Poverty Map of Indonesia" button.

1.2 Poverty Map of Provinces

  1. Open "Poverty Map of Indonesia"; 

  2. Direct the mouse pointer to the "Poverty Map of Provinces" menu on top of the map and click on the desired province as the menu drops down.

1.3 Poverty Map of Districts/Cities

  1. Open "Poverty Map of Provinces"; 

  2. Click on the desired district/city on the map; 

  3. Click on the "Subdistrict Level" sub heading under the "District Poverty Map" heading in the legend box located on the bottom-right hand.

2.1 Introduction

The user's guide for the Poverty Map of Indonesia 2000 CD contains steps to access the information in the CD. In the CD, you can find information about the poverty rates of all areas in Indonesia, which are complemented with a model that is used for estimating household per capita expenditures and its narrations, as well as a preface and a link that directs you to the SMERU website.

The "auto run" facility of the CD will make it easy for you to start browsing the available information. If this facility fails to function on your computer, you can manually open the index.htm file from the CD. The navigation buttons located on the front page (index.htm) can also be found on top of the other pages that you open in the form of menus.

The following is the guide for accessing the information about the poverty map of Indonesia at the provincial, district/city, subdistrict, and village levels, and the model used to estimate household per capita expenditures along with its narrations.

2.2 Poverty Map of Indonesia

You can access this map from the front page (index.htm) or from the other pages by clicking on the "Poverty Map of Indonesia" button/menu. To access the map through the index.htm file:

  1. Insert the CD; 

  2. Wait for a moment until the internet browser automatically opens the index.htm file. If this fails,:

  1. open the internet browser; 

  2. with this browser, open the index.htm file from the CD;

  1. Click on the "Poverty Map of Indonesia" button.

In the next page, you will find the Poverty Map of Indonesia as shown below:

Information on different poverty rates in a particular area is represented in the map by a number of different colors:

  • Red: High Poverty Rate

  • Orange: Medium-high Poverty Rate

  • Yellow: Medium-low Poverty Rate

  • Green: Low Poverty Rate

2.3 Poverty Map of Provinces

From the "Poverty Map of Indonesia - Province Level" page:

  1. Click on the desired province on the map; 

  2. Look at the table in the legend box located on the top-right hand. There, you can see the information on the selected province's number of households, number of population and poverty rate, as well as the standard error of the poverty rate.

From the "Poverty Map of Indonesia - Province Level" page, you can then access the pages for the poverty maps of the corresponding province at the district/city and subdistrict levels. The following is how to access the poverty maps for those levels from the "Poverty Map of Indonesia - Province Level" page.

  • Poverty Map of Provinces - District/City Level
    The district/city level poverty map can be seen through the following two ways:

  1. Through the "Poverty Map of Indonesia - Province Level" page:

  1. Click on the desired province on the map; 

  2. Click on the "District Level" sub heading under the "Province Poverty Map" heading in the legend box located on the bottom-right hand.

  1. Through the "Poverty Map of Provinces" Menu:

  1. Direct the mouse pointer to the "Poverty Map of Provinces" menu on top of the page; doing so will cause the menu to drop down and show a list of provinces; 

  2. Click on the desired province on the list.

To look at the information on poverty at the district/city level:

  1. Click on the desired district/city on the map; 

  2. Look at the table in the legend box located on the top-right hand. There, you can see the information on the selected district's/city's number of households, number of population and poverty rate, as well as the standard error of the poverty rate.

  • Poverty Map of Provinces - Subdistrict Level
    To look at the information on poverty at the subdistrict level:

  1. Open "Poverty Map of Provinces - District Level"; 

  2. Click on the "Subdistrict Level" sub heading under the "Province Poverty Map" heading in the legend box located on the bottom-right hand.

Information on poverty at the subdistrict level can be accessed from the Poverty Map of Provinces in two ways:

  1. From the "Poverty Map of Provinces - Subdistrict Level" page:

  1. Direct the mouse pointer to the desired subdistrict on the map. The name of the subdistrict will appear by doing so; 

  2. Click on the subdistrict; 

  3. Look at the table in the legend box located on the top-right hand. There, you can see the information on poverty of the selected subdistrict.

  1. From the "Poverty Map of Districts/Cities - Subdistrict Level" page:

  1. Click on the desired subdistrict on the map; 

  2. Look at the table in the legend box located on the top-right hand. There, you can see the information on poverty of the selected subdistrict.

2.4 Poverty Map of Districts/Cities

Poverty map at the district/city level can be accessed from the "Poverty Map of Provinces" page as explained before. From the poverty map of the selected district/city, the poverty map at the subdistrict and village levels can then be accessed in the following way:

  • Poverty Map of Districts/Cities - Subdistrict Level:
    There are two ways to open this map:

  1. From the Poverty Map of Provinces - District Level" page:

  1. Click on the desired district/city on the map; 

  2. Click on the "Subdistrict Level" sub heading under the "District Poverty Map" heading in the legend box located on the bottom-right had.

  1. From the "Poverty Map of Provinces - Subdistrict Level" page:

  1. Click on the desired subdistrict that belongs to one of the districts on the map; 

  2. Click on the "Subdistrict Level" sub heading under the "District Poverty Map" heading in the legend box located on the bottom-right hand.

  • Poverty Map of Districts/Cities - Village Level1 :
    There are two ways to open this map:

  1. From the "Poverty Map of Provinces - District Level" page:

  1. Click on the desired district on the map; 

  2. Click on the "Village Level" sub heading under the "District Poverty Map" heading in the legend box located on the bottom-right hand.

  1. From the "Poverty Map of Provinces - Subdistrict Level" page:

  1. Click on the desired subdistrict that belongs to one of the districts on the map; 

  2. Click on the "Village Level" sub heading under the "District Poverty Map" heading in the legend box located on the bottom-right hand.

Information at the Village Level
Information on poverty at the village level can be accessed from the "Poverty Map of Districts/Cities by selecting the "Village Level" sub heading as explained earlier. Next, information on a particular village can be accessed in the following way:

  1. Click on the desired village on the map; 

  2. Look at the table in the legend box located on the top-right hand. There, you can see the information on poverty of the selected village.

2.5 Model and Narration

There are two ways to open this information:

  1. From the "Poverty Map of Indonesia" page:

  1. Click on the desired province on the map; 

  2. In the legend box located on the middle-right hand, click on the "See model & narration" heading.

  1. From the maps other than the above map:

  • Click on the "See model & narration" heading.

2.6 Preface

The preface contains an explanation on the method and data used, as well as the stages in estimating poverty rates, the method used to draw the maps, and the ways to use this poverty map. You can access this information by clicking the "Preface" menu on top of every page.
